A European study concludes that more than 50% of e-commerce sites could be breaking the law.
A study into 359 sites by the European Union found that an alarming 55% showed 'irregularities' in the information and services that they provide which can leave customers short changed.
Information on returns and refunds was the most frequent shortfall. Damaged goods should be allowed to be returned up to two years after sale, which two thirds of sites did not make clear. 45% of sites also failed to inform customers of delivery charges and some were criticised for not providing contact details.
The EU has promised to crack down on 'law breaking' sites in a bid to aid future developments in online retail.
